12ms is actually pretty awesome for an IPS. If you find the two in the link above you will notice that the ISP have 12ms true response time and not actually the 4ms shown. its due to the way they meassure as I said earlier. the 1 ms is not true anyway and is more like 8 and the ISP more like 10. Again the reviews I have seen say there is no visable difference from the difference in response time. then maybe a TN is still to be prefered, but if you like me play all around and also use the PC for other stuff, then IPS is imo the best way to go. If you play competitive FPS only and play for cash. The IPS has better viewing angles, much better colour and sharpness. The only area the TN is better is the 1 ms instead of 4 ms, but those numbers seems to be useless, since there is no standard of messurement and most reviews I have seen claim that you can't see or feel any difference in terms of input lag ie. TL DR: Some people are going with the ASUS because of SDR brightness being higher (450 vs 200), less (or none) aggressive screen dimming and no 4k input firmware bug.I just ordered a pg279q it was on a great deal (priced under the TN version you mention) I have looked at many reviews, opinions and threads here on the forum and in most cases people tend to favour the IPS. The resolution bug can be fixed via CRU but you have to remember to do it every time you update your drivers or you will end up launching a game, getting the dialog on screen telling you "your resolution is set to 4k, please set it to 1440p" and then having to do the whole CRU fix. The screen dimming can be "fixed" by turning off the Smart Energy Saving but this isn't recommend on OLED's for obvious reasons AND it voids your warranty if you do this. The main issues are the aggressive screen dimming and 4k resolution output. The LG also has other issues that LG still hasn't commented on and I dont have faith in LG to fix the issues if they cant even acknowledge them. I am coming from a PG279Q and the main reason im replacing it is because the backlight is dying so I have 2 bright spots on the edge which sometimes completely go dim or stay bright.Īsus advertises 450 nits versus LG's 200 and thats enough for me. I've had the LG for almost a month and I am returning it because I need the brightness at 85 with contrast at 80/85 to be comfortable. Not every game supports brightness and windows 10 in HDR is mediocre.

All the talks I've seen online is the SDR brightness.
