The only group that isn't out to murder everyone is the western hive, but they don't represent all hivers either since the southern hive wants to wipe all non-hivers off the map.(Requires certain npcs be alive to work fully so i recommend use with an import of npcs atleast if not a new start) and in the case of the Shek, once they're done with everyone else they'll start killing themselves again.
There are a few decent folks representing the different factions (Stone Golem for Shek, Griffin for HN, Crumblejon for UC, etc), but overall every faction is out to kill or dominate everyone else. In Kenshi there are no good guys and no honor as far as the factions are concerned. As a species they nearly wiped themselves out due to their bloodthirsty nature. Until she took over and started leading the Shek they were murdering anything in their path, including other Shek. They aren't honorable, they don't kill outsiders (or each other) because the Stone Golem tells them not to. Thats mostely right, the only thing you got wrong is the Shek. I prefer the Sheks as well, and I always end up starting out there, between Squin and the hub
